If only it were that easy, i.e. to don the shoes of a lightening bolt or a cape of a superhero and perform accordingly. After sifting through the minutiae of garbage on the market the legitimate products rise to the occasion, generally reserved for the top athletes and their endeavors. Sometimes we put the cart before the horse and depend too heavily on gear without establishing a sufficient baseline of performance. Gear will put the finishing touches on what we've already forged through concentrated labor; however, it won't facilitate migration to the next level of performance. After the athletes establish what works the markets exploit it. A hefty credit card will get you the bells and whistles of the appearance of a professional but reality knows otherwise. Performance is the bottom line. A better idea may be to earn our gear like a martial artist or soldier earns rank. Unless you are number one in your endeavor there will always be someone else in the history of the world who did more with less. Respect the activity, earn the gear, and use it like a professional. In a world replete with posers, actors, charlatans, and snake oil salesman the only difference we can make is in how we perform. My shoes weren't enough to give me the 14 seconds needed to subdue the two runners in front of me but my baseline is established and the pilot light has been lit. Beware as seismic quakes pick up pace. Check your rearview mirror as loud pipes bring the noise of defeat. Be prepared to pull over as the monster truck occupies the entire road and soon passes into the horizon. Numbers are established for the sole purpose of being sacrificed to the gods of determination. Without establishing a baseline we are training without direction like a sniper without a scope. Set your sights and dial it in. Vacation is over.
