REST

No lubrication in the joints, no fuel in the tank, no one manning the controls, no tread left on the tires, no more juice in the juicer. The muscles are full of rust, petrified, dormant, and cautious of any suggestions. The mind is drifting in and out of consciousness, unable to concentrate, wondering, worried, and lethargic. Is 48 hours enough time to completely refresh, energize, and get ready for a new cycle of pain and suffering or have I inflicted 72 hours of pain? Is one day off enough? Do I deserve rest, need rest, want rest? Am I getting more or less fit by resting? Am I overtraining? Working backward, forward, or upsidedown? Should I be doing more or less? Am I eating enough? Should I boost my calories? Is it possible that I'm training outside of my normal zone and need to compensate? More sleep, more food, acupuncture, massage, astrology? What do I need, if anything?

  2. I've been thoroughly impressed and completely entertained with the originality and difficulty of the last week of work that you and Turbo have completed. I'ts been a constant onslaught of creativity, bending of the rules, and pushing of the limits. I don't believe it possible to answer very many of the questions you listed, at least not with much certainty. How our mind and bodies "feel" coupled with a conscious knowledge of nutrition and recovery are all the tools we have to navigate our next destination. In the end rest is necessary but most of us tend to under rest or only rest the minimum. In my experience it seems as though addiction to pain and self destruction brings the mind back from the dead, even if the body isn't ready. I say take two this time, one to get the mind right and further digest your thoughts and the second day to continue rebuilding the machine. You've out done yourself with the last few days "festivities". Once the work resumes, regardless of when, it will be hard to slow the train down and leave the new "normal".

  3. Cav, I remember when you couldn't pull up your socks! Glad to see the progress.
Good point Clint. I think it's imperative to moderate training or take two steps forward and one step back. I'm amazed at how much the body can handle but don't want the curiosity of just how much to backfire. Slow and steady progress is the best type when considering longevity. This activity is unlike any other in that it doesn't exact such an acute toll on the entire system. Programming determines the quality of the map that we use to navigate to our final destination.

  4. After action reports are in, the nuclear haze has lifted, and initial damage assessments are well underway. The consequences of the past week have arrived. The aftermath making it difficult just to ignite the requisite grey matter to finish this post between fatigue-induced comas. Why submit to this voluntary purgatory? Why avoid it? The competition is out there, hungry for victory. The enemy is still hides in wait. At times, it’s necessary and prudent to ignore the rules, disregard sound judgment, and find the outer limits. The over read and under trained will lecture on the destructive nature of such programming. Their sights are off. It’s here we earn our mental stripes, turning the spotlight on our internal tenacity. So, go ahead, hurl yourself into the hurt locker for a varsity beat-down. When the door reopens, embrace the transformation.

Solista, I appreciate the collaboration. We walked in uncharted lands this week, documented the terrain, and mapped a return route. Of course, from this point, there is only one direction in which to proceed.

  5. I suspect that New Years will bring a different kind of bash this year. While most minds, bodies, and businesses will be closing down the pain train will be running on time and business will proceed as usual! Let the countdown begin!!
