  1. The perfect recipe integrates as many relevant ingredients as possible so as to elicit the most ardent culinary climax. A precision taste requires precision ingredients whereas the classic suicide mix will guarantee unexpected results. Fillers are anathema. Artificial movements used to sweeten a program are wasteful and perceptual weakeners.
    Current demands have moved the compass needle and consequently dictate the flavor of training. Obligations to specific performance tasks require a delicate recipe so as to meet the myriad taste buds of hungry mouths waiting to pounce on the most innocuous fissure. Military fitness, for all its shortcomings, still comes with a standard. Meeting and/or exceeding that standard is the end user's prerogative as standards in the military and life in general are rarely enforced. Being able to dead-lift 500# is a worthy task in and of itself but if it comes with a cost of a slow run or swim then a compromise is needed. Over the years standards have a tendency to wane or fade into the background as other interests or endeavors take priority. It is the philosophy of this organization that they exist to be met on any given day and regardless of the level of fitness or ability achieved in other areas the basic standards take priority. If other abilities take precedence then the standards should be changed to reflect evolving demands and/or abilities. The generalized approach to training is much easier than training for or maintaining a certain standard. A sense of pride and accomplishment comes with meeting a standard or a demand established and disseminated through what seems like an omniscient entity. The least we can ask for in life is minimal standards lest we become captured by gravity and sink to the lowest level of functioning. The perceptively inclined have probably detected the current pattern or mix of barbells, body weight, and endurance. The precision approach to barbell evolution has been relegated to a maintenance program while other tasks trump the hitherto unrestricted approach. Only personal levels of satisfaction will govern the freedom needed to freelance in this desert of possibilities. Until then, nothing stands between me and the next hill.
