It takes guesswork and associated breaches in strategic training out play. The concept promotes the idea that (for endurance sessions) the body does not care how far it has traveled, only that it has engaged in a particular activity for certain amount of time. The more common technique of establishing distance and utilizing elapsed time to score the objective is completely dependent on terrain, pace, and countless other influences. By eliminating the distance component, all other factors disappear. It is now simply a matter of supplying the associated endurance to meet the time requirement, set your pace and let the clock expire.
