Definitely surprised to see my time when I finished. I thought I went much slower in the second set, but sure enough, the set with incorporated rest was my best time by far. Worst part of the series were the 40 push ups. I lost a lot of grip strength in the c&j's without tape or chalk, and the state of the art neoprene wrapped, slanted handle bars I used for pull-ups added to the challenge. By the time I got to the ground for push ups, my forearms were toast! Homework: More push ups! And as always continue to search for more appropriate equipment at my neighborhood gym...

Let thoughts of physical devastation rack your brain and you’ll continually find laborious combinations rooted in sheer evil. Those who dabble in the realm of functional fitness are certainly familiar with the thruster/pull-up duo. However, they may be missing out on an ever-satisfying life experience: Thrusters/push-ups. Truth spewing from an open mouth between labored breaths; I too, never had the pleasure. Considering both are extension exercises, there’s a certain amount of pain expected. As it were, expectations drastically underestimated reality. Transitioning immediately from push-ups to thrusters at the mid-point of the workout left shoulders shaking, barely sustaining enough energy to lock out overhead. In the first bout, I failed to complete the final five thrusters in succession, breaking after four. I distinctly remember driving out of the front squat on the first repetition thinking someone increased the load. Push-ups ate up the clock, 40 reps counting for more than two minutes in the second round. Tackling the workout first, I attributed the surprising effects to the press wod earlier in the week. As the 324 following each took their turn at immortality, results were strikingly similar, dispelling any notion of an isolated incident, and recording yet another misery for a page dedicated to torment.
