I don't know too many lumberjacks who run; hence, the sandbag carry. The other reason is that the snow and ice was an impediment to carving out the exact distance. For midline stabilization and core control amidst the fatigue it was a good combination. My pace was tracking until getting to the dumbells. It took rounds of five to get the form flow down and endure the hip fatigue. This movement's sole purpose was to add to the suck factor and, for me, it certainly did. This is where I lost time. Otherwise, I enjoyed the variety of movements.

  3. I didn't think too much of this WOD. Just random movements thrown together. In the end (as rx'd), the time is consumed running. Not a bad workout, but the same could be said for step aerobics.

I plan on doing the "Thanksgiving Day Massacre" on Thursday. Standby for the results.

  4. I didn't do it running but from looking at it I wondered if the running was a break. What I liked about the sandbag is that it was continued pressure. I thought about substituting the row for the run but didn't think it made programming sense.

  5. In regards to the Lumberjack, I wasn't turning out 60 sec. 400m splits. I stayed in the 90 sec. range, controlled my breathing, and prepared for the next movement. So, in that respect, yes, it was a break. I think my strategy was sound. It left enough in the tank to move rapidly through the barbell and body weight components.

Similar to the Lumberjack 20, redlining in any one area of this WOD was going to cost you substantial time. Pacing was the name of the game, particularly on the row. I stayed at 2:00 min./500m. Came off the rower under 35 min. going into the MUs. At this point, I was fairly certain sub-40 was in the cards. Wrong. I could only manage about 4/min. As you pointed out, this was by far the most difficult and frustrating part of the workout. No failed attempts, but copious rest ate up the clock. Great workout.
