  1. turbo. 390# (pr)/305#/405# = 1100

Better check the firing order, this is a powerlifting total. I do not question the legitimacy of the shoulder press as a valid test of strength. The lack of a stabilization platform fosters core engagement and tests raw power, but it does recruit only a small group of upper body muscles. The bench press is far from the perfect exercise to validate strength, but it’s prolonged existence as a yardstick warrants visitation on occasion.

A decade has passed since my last attempt at totaling the three powerlifts. I deemed the moment had surfaced. I’d be fabricating a number trying to relay any close approximation of my last known total. However, 390# is a certain lifetime PR for the back squat, done without the use of any support equipment. A 315# bench press remains elusive, failing again on my third attempt. My deadlift was abysmal; 405# felt pulling trying to my Jeep out of a mud bog with shot cord. The stars must align in perfect formation to PR three lifts in a single session, walking away with a single record should be satisfying… I’m not here for reasonable fulfillment.
