  1. only seven rounds!

I've been wanting to try this for some time now. With all of the nonsense wrapped around tearing calluses it only makes sense. I have very vulnerable, recently healed, calluses on my hands that would've torn easily with chalk. My hands were fine. Although chalk allows us to overgrip, shorten our forearms, gives us leverage, and permits higher numbers the price is hamburger hands and weaker forearms. If we can argue for chalk then we should take the next logical step and argue for using straps or clamp on hands. Chalk has its application in lifting heavy weight for one rep as in power or olympic lifting. Furthermore, chalk is crutch when doing metcon wods such as fran or linda. It's an excuse to stop and rest without being so overt about it. Chalk isn't going to get you through fran or linda any faster. If we truly want to train at a disadvantage and get the most out of our body then we should grease our hands and get on the popeye express. A few lessons learned: It takes a more vertical kip; if you use the traditional pendulum kip you'll end up doing a ganer. You should also pay attention to your transition at the bottom. If you don't slow down before kipping again the bar will slip out of your hands. They eventually turn into finger pull ups. Vasoline likes to spread and somehow got on the bar. This made front squats even more formidable as the requirement for high elbows was necessary lest the bar slip away.
Anyway, put your high reps on the shelf and reach for the vasoline. Why not make hard harder?

  2. Dude, I like the way you think. You must have gotten some looks when this went on the white board.

  3. Usually if you're getting looks then you are either doing something right that others are afraid to do or you have completely missed the boat. My forearms are sore today.
