DRAFT, PACE, AND OVERTAKE

one mile (med-eng bomb suit)

After months of speculation, conjecture, and theory it was time to supplant fiction with fact, time to record the data, and move from the prodromal to latent phase of imposing volition. Running for time requires exhaustive time trials, precision pacing, and the ability to extrapolate. Without any reference and running against another person, the objective was to win the race; not to set a record. The pace was consistent until the fourth lap when my opponent's forcefield was shattered by the predatory stealth of appetite. Strategy was simple. Faint fatigue, over exaggerate with spurious grunts and ostensibly uncontrolled breathing; reel him in while penetrating his subconscious, surreptitiously planting seeds of defeat, hopelessness and despair. Striking requires commitment and passing demands that we never look back.
Shaving minutes from this mile requires repetition. The movement is unlike any of the other mule-based tasks deployed hitherto. Weekly miles, if not more frequently, will be incorporated for the sake of reaching a satisfying baseline.
