ReplyDeleteOne truism that has become a reality over the past couple of months is the effect that austere activity has on conventional precision training, i.e. barbell movements and specific pain storm evolutions. The austere movements not only tax the entire body, especially as one fatigues and recruits more horses but some of them create such a precise pinnacle of stress that the only hope for mitigation is to slow down. The one mile tire drag created two points of stress, one in the hips and the other in the calves. This took an ordinate toll on the following day's front squats, and rightfully so. These movements are all positive or uphill so that slowing down is akin to, more or less stopping. Unless a freight train is rolling down hill it needs coal to maintain forward motion. And so it is with the austere movements. Attention to programming is key when incorporating an inordinate amount of unconventional exercises. Using them as enhancers while reducing the side effects is key to good programming. It only gets worse from here. Stay tuned.
