THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND

warm up: 30" box jumps 
(every 15 sec for 7 min from 1/8th-1/4 squat)

E2MOM for 20 min or 10 rnds
7 C2B pull ups
14 jumping push ups (air under the hands on full extension)
21 jumping squats

  1. An unexpected power outage closed the gym and consequently altered my course; more like forced a wrong turn towards the fiery bowels of the devil's playground. As though the ambient temperature wasn't hot enough a poor attempt to quell the inferno in the form of a quick deluge simply aggravated the conditions. The only benefit to training in hell's basement is that a warm up is not only unnecessary but probably counter productive. Either way, a cooker is necessary in order to forge the mental fortitude that the air conditioned innards of a plush facility doesn't demand. In fact, training this way in the AC is probably doing more of a disservice if the training is expected to be employed outdoors. The best quality of good training is that it mimic the operational environment.
    This tempo was almost a 1:1 work:rest ratio. The purpose of integrating rest was two fold; to move faster and to give the mind time to consider its body's predicament. The faster the work, the more the rest. By incorporating rest we can stop and feel the heat coming off what smells like a melting track. Rest is nothing more than a game of devil's advocate, tempting comfort by realizing misery. In this case, the numbers stand alone, separated by the discomfort of the heat as it took precedence over any undetected fatigue. Fatigue was probably present but the heat smothered it like carbon monoxide on oxygen. Training in conditions that are more formidable than the task will not produce any records but will definitely test one's resolve. Sometimes it makes the difference between training and self-preservation.

  2. Heat index was 106 degrees today,but oh well...got it done. I agree that doing this indoors would've been counterproductive. Anaerobic activity coupled with extreme heat=
    increased Vo2 max.
