If you've never seen two mad scientists figuring out how to extract juice from a rock then you haven't seen us in action. It isn't necessarily the end product or destination that matters as much as the collateral sprouting of so many new roads never traveled. Ideas beget ideas. This is the forever evolving nature of life in the laboratory. The only other collaboration in history that rivals such fervor happened in the remote laboratories in Los Alamos before revealing their life's work, Trinity. As such, Trinity resembled possibility along with utility and thus ensued the nuclear age. If you think you are watching the discovery channel you are, only uncut and commercial free, replete with self-aggrandized madmen with enough brain to rival any brawn. Only unlimited strength, speed, and power is sufficient to match the ambition and creative wherewithal that flows from the underground bunker of subversive knowledge and ideas.
The concept of max effort is something of a misnomer in this context as, by definition, a max effort is done free from the jurisdiction of pre- exhaustion, i.e. the 400 mtr run. Furthermore, a max effort should be free from the anticipation of pace. Not having a personal timer, oblivious to pace, and anticipating rest/pace ratio I chose to stop at 50 reps on the first movement. Each run suffered exponentially while mental contamination stifled the body's carte blanche to engage in a defining max effort. The beauty of this ugliness is in the depth and breadth of knowledge gained. Stay tuned for the cancerous creativity that flows from the spigots of experimentation.

  2. We are finally getting some warm weather over here. I believe it's because of the volcanic ash flying over from across the pond.

It helped us. Did this outside with the sun glaring in our eyes.

The brain trust spent the better portion of last evening engaged in curriculum development. Cerebral suggestions exchanged via teleconference sparked a litany of exploratory concepts. The final draft reached assembly stage this morning.

Steadfast review of current methods continues to reveal avenues of improvement. Without apposite consideration and implementation existing inadequacies in course training linger. This endeavor focused on providing a means for constant throttle pressure. Often, run intervals are interpreted as a recuperation component. Impart a motivator and enjoy a constant kick in the ass.

As the case with any prototype, preliminary testing distinguishes enhanced options. After running the “Pilot Course,” immediate feedback indicated the desire for timed rest following the max effort. Realizing that working too close to the expiration of 5 minutes would deplete rest, I found myself settling for a predetermined number of repetitions and not complete failure. Presented in the infancy of evolution, this model will progress in the hands of competent caretakers.

  4. With the thrusters, I felt that I was "cheating" if I paused. I could have done a few more. However, like said didn't feel right.
KBS were good, no breaks. I really thought it would be important to gas my self out on the 400's then at the most a "3,2,1, GO!", then hit the push press so fast and hard as possible. No stops in between reps. This, although the reps were less then desired, helped with firing up anything left untouched.

funny thing with #4 sprint. The one minute more of rest resulted in the fastest of all 400m today. For the burpees, my mind thought just pace it,keep moving. I will have to work more in this dept. I believe I paced it too much.

    Nice job guys!

  5. Rob we cogitated on all of these issues. I, too, held the notion that a max effort was one defined by continuous movement. Turbo pointed out that by holding the load you are still under pressure. I likened it to pistons in a motor. If they stop then so does the horsepower. This idea opens a huge can of worms that impugns other common tactics such as removing hands from the bar, taking as much rest as necessary, etc. Placing limitations changes the metabolic demands and tests physical fitness in a different way by removing your control mechanisms. We have plenty of ideas that are coming down the pike. Just as Socrates did in the market place, we can philosophize until accused of impiety, and we will but better yet, we are determined to navigate our global selves in search of strange new territories that go uncharted by the common man.
