STRATEGY?

135# ground to overhead x 30 for time

  1. I've always been an advocate of controlling the bar on the descent when lifting relatively light weight for reps. Consequently, I've always used the touch and go method. At the last minute I decided to try the drop and regrip technique. It was more economical; however, the caveat is that bouncy plates are a liability. Trying to manage the bounce on the regrip definitely built in some rest but I wanted to speed up on the last ten reps and had some difficulty doing anything about it. Today's wod was weird, feeling like a big weird noodle. I wonder if taking the floor out of it altogether and making it hang to overhead would add validity.?

  2. I've tried both. My best (i.e fastest) effort was touch & go. However, I concur with your observation, dropping the bar is far more economical. Especially, when the load is close to body weight. As I fatigue, it becomes increasingly more difficult to track the bar to the ground effectively. I've seen this workout done sub 2 dropping every rep. Like anything, if you practice it enough you'll find efficiency.

Try heavier power cleans as a warm up for this WOD. I adopted this strategy after a 1RM hang power clean WOD that was followed by a short power clean metcon. Like taking a few swings in the on deck circle with a weighted bat, the iron feels lighter. I worked just a few reps at 185# & 205# prior to my PR. Made 135# move like 115#.

Changing this WOD to the hang, different game all together.
