  1. In keeping with the scientific spirit of Los Alamos I decided to run a timed mile in order to measure it against my previous from two weeks ago. In so doing, observe an measurable effects of training at altitude. I am now a believer.
    6:50 compared to 5:47!
    1:21, 1:29, 1:28, 1:25
The track is at about 8000 feet. I warmed up as usual, aware of the effects of altitude but conveniently underestimated them. My first 1/4 was on pace to run sub six (I truly expected to gut out a 5:59). At the 1/2 I couldn't breath and my legs felt flat. At 3/4 I wanted to quit. I realized that quitting is a more palatable option than slowing down. I can't remember ever running a mile that slow and feeling that bad. The 400 mtr sprints were equally debilitating as every single one left me with tingling extremities and extremely hypoxic. Three hours have passed and I still feel flat.
